'Everyone that is a supporter should feel proud,' SMHF

Posted June 16, 2014

The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation is so fortunate to have individuals, businesses and organizations who have stepped up to the plate and generously supported the It takes you... campaign. Everyone that is a supporter should feel proud as funds raised during this campaign will continue to make a real difference for patients and their families.

The purchase of a laparoscopic tower, 8 dialysis machines, a digital radiography (x-ray) machine, operating room table, ENT (ears, nose and throat) equipment, anesthetic gas machine, echocardiograph machine, hematology analyzer, probes and cystoscopes are just a few of the pieces of equipment that have been purchased during this campaign.

When a new doctor or specialist is looking for a position within a community hospital most frequently they will select a facility which has the most up to date equipment possible.

We are pleased to say that as a result of this campaign you have attracted new doctors and specialists to the area, resulting in reduced wait times, better care and improved treatment for patients. Staff at Stevenson believes in delivering the best possible care and achieving the best possible outcomes for their patients. The new specialized tools and equipment for the orthopedic and urology services have now enhanced the ability to perform specific surgeries in New Tecumseth.

However, maintaining a high standard of equipment at Stevenson is a continuous process that is never ending for the Hospital and the Foundation. Although the It takes you... campaign has officially reached its $2.76 million goal, this community is still inspired and asking how they can help. That is wonderful to hear, as the Foundation has the same challenge every year to constantly raise funds with the purpose of supporting the needs of the Hospital. At least a million dollars is required to be raised each year to respond to these needs.

Campaign Chair, Margaret Barber, recently visited with local resident Don Shannon who expressed his feelings and summed it up perfectly. "There is no doubt in my mind that the care and attention given at Stevenson is very positive," said Mr. Shannon. "I could not imagine anyone in this community not wanting to support this hospital as it continues to grow and exist." Your continued support is an investment in good health, and a better quality of life - for you, your family and our community.

Scrubs' mission is to increase awareness and raise funds for new equipment at Stevenson but he also continues to give comfort to young patients in the emergency room. Our adorable little teddy bear has been very popular and well received; as a result many are hoping to see him carry on as the Foundation Ambassador.

"The Campaign Cabinet - Darlene Blendick, Donna Jebb, Elyse Miltenberg, Kathy O'Brady, Susan Rae, Pat Thompson, Kristan Barata and Tanya Wall have done a superb job," said Campaign Chair, Margaret Barber. "On behalf of the Foundation Board, I would especially like to extend a heartfelt thank you all the supporters, donors and third party event hosts who gave generously of their time and money to support the Stevenson Memorial Hospital. It is truly appreciated."
