Posted February 14, 2014

Nottawasaga OPP Constable Dale Smith has been selected to receive the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB) - Zone 3 Community Service Award, which recognizes those "who are actively involved in the community they police."

Constable Smith joined the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment in 2006 upon graduation from Police College. He is in charge of the Nottawasaga Detachment's Bicycle Patrol Unit, which operates in the urban centres of Angus, Alliston and Tottenham during the summer.

"For the past five years, Constable Smith has served as the High School Resource Officer at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Tottenham and Banting Memorial High School in Alliston. He is the primary liaison officer for youth diversion and youth restorative justice programs.

"He works very closely with parents and youth, and conducts interventions when the need arises.  Students have become very comfortable with Constable Smith, and approach him with their questions and concerns," according to the press release announcing the award. "Constable Smith has always been actively involved with youth, and has coached various levels of basketball for approximately 19 years. Constable Smith coached at Banting Memorial High School, while working at the High School Resource officer. He assists with mentorship of parents and teens in the community, as well as encourages a healthy family relationship through his involvement with local services such as the Elizabeth Fry Society."

He will receive his Community Service Award on Wed., Feb 19th,  at 4:00 pm, at the Nottawasaga OPP detachment headquarters.
