Surplus land sales in the offing

Posted March 8, 2016

Anyone in the market for a no longer active gravel pit located in Tosorontio, is in luck. New Tecumseth owns one, and along with other surplus properties, it's destined for sale.

Deputy mayor Jamie Smith won approval to direct staff to compile the list of properties the Town owns that could be sold off.

"There's a fair amount of land parcels, both in New Tecumseth and outside New Tecumseth, the Town owns. It's my personal opinion that some of these should be sold," said Mr. Smith. "For example, we own a gravel pit in what used to be the Township of Tosorontio. We're not using it as far as I'm aware, and it ties up our capital."

Its exact location was still being confirmed at this post, but Mr. Smith noted it's "near the other older pits in the Township. Property belonged to Ireland family like a couple of other pits in the area."

He also pointed to a parcel just off Tupper Street that used to be part of the railway land, and abuts a property that was formerly Munro Concrete, "so it could have some value."

"I"m asking the Town do its best to sell those parcels of land as quickly as possible and identify what other parcels that should be sold."
