Minor Atom AA
The Ken Beattie Limited Minor Atom AA's sponsored by ScotiaBank finally took to the ice for their second round battle versus the incredibly tenacious Georgina Blaze. For the victor, the mighty York Simcoe title, loser heads to the Consolation side.

The first period saw both teams come out flying. It was the visitors that struck first to take a 1-0 lead into the second frame against the defending champ Tornados.

In the second, the young phenoms tied it up on a great finish by Wylie"the Wizard" Birkett from Cole Turcotte and Steven Mercer. 1-1 after two.

In the third, it was all home side as they scored one after the other to make the game out of reach. First was Kyler "K-dog" MacNeil from Mitchell Smilsky and Hayden Forrest. Next to snipe was "Shoots like a Cannon" Turcotte on a great play from Jackson Vojin and Michael Meszaros. To take a three goal lead, "the Wizard" Birkett found the back of the net from Turcotte and Graysen Alexander. In the dying seconds, the Blaze struck again to split the lead but it was "K-dog" MacNeil that found the empty netter from Colin Ewing and Dalziel Kirby. Make the final 5-2.

The second game saw the young stars travel to Sutton to take on the Blaze. We knew this was going to be a battle and knew they would come out flying in hopes of tying the series.

In the first, it was the visitors that again were first to strike as Jacob "the Howitzer" Holmes fired a blast from the point on passes from Caleb Thompson and Hayden Santo. As soon as we took the lead, it was taken away at the drop of the puck. Again, the young phenoms took the lead in the first, only to have it tied by the end of the frame. The second goal for TNT was tipped in by "Shoots like a Cannon" Turcotte from a point shot by Holmes and Kirby. 2-2 after one.

In the second, our boys tightened up a little as the Blaze could sense a bit of urgency by the visiting side. If not for great saves by Scotty "Balls" Barnett, the Blaze would have had more than a one goal lead heading into the final frame. 3-2 Blaze after two.

In the third, the teams swapped goals. Ours from "the Wizard" Birkett from Holmes and Vojin. This period saw our team really start to pass and took it to the home side. If not for great saves from their keeper, the series would have been 2-0 TNT but in the end, Georgina hung on and added an empty netter to tie the series with a 5-3 final. Great battle boys. This will definitely be a long one. The next game sees Georgina return to the Wind Tunnel (NTRC rink #2) this Thursday at 6:30pm. Come out and cheer on this talented home side.
