Clarington puts TNT back on the brink

Posted March 3, 2014

TNT Midget AA have spotted the Clarington Toros a two game lead in OMHA Semi-final play, following a pair of wins over the weekend.

In the series opener, TNT trailed late in the third by a score of 2-1. With under a minute to play, and coming off a time out, TNT scored the tying goal, sending it overtime. With only two minutes gone in the extra frame, TNT was assessed a penalty. Clarington capitalized, moving on to a 3-2 victory.

"I thought we played a strong game," said TNT coach Scott Hutchinson. "To have a marginal interference call go against us in overtime is deflating, but that's hockey

On Sunday night, the home town team travelled to Clarington for game #2. Before the first period was half completed, TNT trailed 4-1. Certainly not the type of start one would expect. In the end, TNT fizzled to a 6-2 loss.

"As a team, we need to be better," said Hutchinson. "We need to be ready to compete from the time we get to the rink. We didn't start well and that ended up costing us. We have to regroup, stay positive, and be more disciplined.  We had our backs up against the wall against Newmarket and they could not get the final win from us.  We need to have the same mentality for Game #3. No one is crowned a winner until 3 games are won, and that has yet to happen."

Game # 3 goes Wednesday night at 8:00 pm at the NTRC.

The schedule is as follows:

Game 3 Wed. Mar. 5: 8 pm NTRC #1
*Game 4 Fri. Mar. 7: @ Clarington 8:30pm
*Game 5 Sat. Mar. 8: 6:15 pm NTRC #1
*Game 6 Sun. Mar. 9: 6:15pm @ Clarington
