The expansion Tottenham Steam will open their inaugural season in the Greater Metro Hockey League (GMHL) with Ryan Wood as the team's General Manager.

Wood, 30, is fresh off a Russell Cup victory as head coach and assistant GM of the Bradford Bulls. The Bulls had a regular season record of 32-6-4 and lost only one game in the playoffs; carving a 14-1 path through four rounds for the team's first title.

"My goals are to provide a quality team full of talented players from all over the world who will be actively involved in community events and volunteer where needed," Wood said. "We're going to provide some great hockey action for Tottenham fans, but we'll also be looking to enjoy the great town and its wonderful people and history."

Wood's own hockey resume includes AAA and high school hockey growing up and advanced to Junior A in the SIJHL for Thunder Bay, being listed by the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL. He also donned the stripes as a professional hockey referee in various professional and tier 1 and tier 2 Jr A leagues such as the USHL, IHL, SPHL, NAHL and NCAA.

The Steam, who'll play out of Tottenham Arena when the season starts the week of Sept. 6th, does not yet have a head coach. Wood said this morning he is accepting resumes for the position, but if can't fill the spot, will open the season behind the bench too. Jacob Bauchman, a 2008 OHL draft pick of the Peterborough Petes, and former Stayner Siskin, along with Daryl Ashenden Barrie Colts Midget AAA assistant coach last year, are assistance coaches.

Players looking for an opportunity to try out, will have two opportunity's at the team's ID Skate May 27th 7:30 pm and May 29th 9:30 pm both at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre, cost is $40.
