The parkland component of the Treetops (Belterra) subdivision is set for approval tonight, and represents the single largest community park developed from scratch in New Tecumseth at a cost of more than $2.4 million, of which 90 per cent will be funded by development charges, and the remainder funded from the cash in lieu of parkland reserve account.

The Treetops Community Park will include the following features:
Playground Structures
Accessible Walking paths
Pavilion Gathering Space
Service Building with washrooms
Basketball Court (3 on 3)
Fitness Equipment
Splash Pad (Water Play)-Green design
Beach Volleyball Courts (2)
Toboggan Hill
Unstructured Recreational Play Space
Enhanced Entrance/Lookout areas
Enhanced Tree and Shrub Plantings

Construction of the park, designed by Cosburn Lauboris Ltd, is expected to be completed by December.

"This Park will contribute greatly to our residents 'Sense of Place' and encourage healthy active living for this new residential area as well as become a destination for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy with family and friends the diverse amenities that encourage physical activity, social engagement, healthy lifestyles, and overall community development," according to the staff report on tonight's council agenda. "The outdoor play spaces incorporate accessibility features such as, but not limited to, sensory and active play components for children and caregivers with various disabilities; provide a ground surface that is firm and stable to accommodate users with mobility devices, yet resilient enough to absorb impact for injury prevention in the area around the play equipment; and provide sufficient clearance in and around the play space to allow children with various disabilities and their caregivers room to move around the space."
