Water, sewer bills to climb again

Posted December 3, 2013

Water and wastewater usage is each proposed to increase from $1.74 to $1.82 per cubic metre, or 4.6 per cent more starting April 1, 2014.

The increase, which is slightly smaller than the annual five per cent hikes the past few budget cycles, is expected to raise an additional $360,000 in combined revenue.

New Tecumseth water and wastewater bills are charged on actual usage with no minimum charges. The budget package estimates the increases will add between $2.40 and $4.80 per month to the "average" bill - which are sent out quarterly.

The water budget is proposed to be $5.6 million, including $407,421 in transfers to a new Asset Management Reserve fun. Long term debt obligations have grown by $413,044 related to the Parsons Road Reservoir expansion (DC eligible.).

Wastewater budget is $7.5 million, including a $671,304 transfer to Asset Management Reserve fund. Long term debt on the sewage side will decrease by $554,951 along with the final instalment of debenture related to Alliston sewage treatment plant in 1993.

However, the debt will increase again to account for construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Tottenham, DC eligible.
