Wilson holds Simcoe-Grey with smallest margin of victory since 1990

Posted June 13, 2014

For the first time since his inaugural term in 1990, Jim Wilson was re-elected Simcoe-Grey MPP with less than 50 per cent of the popular vote, taking 26,238 last night, or 47 per cent of the 55,658 ballots that counted. In the 1995 campaign that elected the Mike Harris government, Mr. Wilson scored his largest victory margin, taking 68 per cent of the total votes.

Liberal candidate Lorne Kenney had his party's best showing in the riding elections with 17,385, while the NDP's David Matthews at 7,837, and Green Party's Jesseca Dudun finished with 4,198.

Last night, PC Party leader Tim Hudak announced he was stepping down from the post, setting up a change in leadership. Mr. Wilson was Opposition House leader at dissolution May 2, and as the party's 'elder statesman' could be tapped to be interim leader.

Planning process for redevelopment of hospitals in Alliston and Collingwood, and increased funding for Matthews House Hospice among his stated priorities over the next term.
