Council asked to approve consultant contract for facility sponsorships
Posted March 23, 2026
New Tecumseth council to deal tonight with a request for $90,000 to hire an external consultant to value municipal properties and facilities for potential sponsorship and naming rights opportunities.
The contract would cover assets including recreation centres, parks, sports fields, and ball diamonds. Funding would come from the Modernization Grant Reserve Fund, with revenues from future sponsorship agreements expected to help offset the initial cost.
Among the properties under review, the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre is expected to be the most valuable. About 10 years ago, the FLATO Group offered $1 million for 10-year naming rights, an offer council at the time declined.
Staff will report back to council with a list of suitable properties and valuation results before any agreements are finalized. The initiative builds on the Town’s 2024 Sponsorship Policy, which provides guidelines to generate revenue while supporting municipal priorities.
The project aims to ensure valuations are market-based, transparent, and aligned with corporate standards. The goal is for sponsorship revenues to help offset operating costs, enhance program delivery, and support future capital reinvestment, while reducing reliance on traditional funding sources.
