New Tecumseth growth study enters its final phase

Posted October 24, 2024

The latest update to New Tecumseth's Official Plan Review and Growth Management Study will be presented to council in a working session on October 30.

The 917 page report details planning for a total population of 81,000 (35,000 new) by 2051, along with enough land to accommodate 31,000 jobs. It also establishes Community Area and Employment Area requirements to accommodate this growth - 448 hectares for new residential and 75 hectares of employment area.

The study process, which is entering its final phase, has received 62 residential development requests for inclusion, and two requests to convert industrial land to residential.

Two Settlement Area Boundary Expansion options are being proposed.

-  The Alliston / Beeton option which focuses all new growth around Alliston and Beeton; and

- Spreading new growth around Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham.

"Both options reflect sound planning principles but offer distinct long-term visions for the community," according to the report's summary. "One option concentrates growth in Alliston and Beeton, while the other allocates growth more evenly across all three settlement areas—Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham."

A public information session is scheduled for November 5th, 2024; 4pm - 8pm at the new administration centre in Alliston.
