Nottawasaga OPP is investigating a fail-to-remain collision that claimed the life of a 35-year-old Richmond Hill woman, just east of Cookstown.

Police reported being called to the scene on Hwy 89 near the 5th Sideroad at approximately 3 am Sunday (July 13), where they located the victim on the shoulder of the road, where she was pronounced deceased.

"Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was walking along Highway 89 when she was struck by a blue passenger vehicle traveling eastbound shortly after 2 am. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene," according to OPP. "The vehicle has since been located. Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the driver."

Highway 89 was temporarily closed between King Street and 5th Side Road during the early morning hours as members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) team assisted with the ongoing investigation.
