2025 budget approved, crossing guard cuts reversed

New Tecumseth council rescinded planned cuts to 12 crossing guards at the last minute ahead of approving a 2025 budget that will hike the municipal share of taxes by 4.04 per cent. Reinstating the guards added $171,000 back into the budget, which bumped up the tax rate by .37 per cent.

The levy is intented to collect $45.1 million in taxes for local purposes.
When all combined with the County and the School Boards the overall average tax increase in 3.23 per cent or $154 per household.

The Town’s 2025 capital budget includes 65 new and continuing capital projects at a cost of $59.2M funded by a combination of grants, reserves/reserve funds and debentures.
