New Tecumseth's Ward 2 councillor is bringing forward a motion to establish a neighbourhood area speed limit zone of 40 km/h covering a large swath of west end Alliston.
Wendy Gabrek, who's proposing the change as a pilot project, will present the speed reduction plan from its current 50 km/h, to New Tecumseth's Traffic Advisory Committee on Nov. 14, ahead of seeking council's approval. The subject area is bounded by Young Street to the north, King Street to the east, and Industrial Parkway to the south and west.
The impacted streets would include Walker Boulevard, Holt Drive, Scott Drive, Morrison Avenue, 8th Avenue, Smith Street, Preston Avenue, Henderson Crescent, Brooks Court, Hunter Court, Whiteside Court, MacKenzie Street, Tupper Boulevard, Storey Gate, and McCague Crescent Alliston.
In her preamble, Gabrek notes the Traffic Advisory Committee is currently working on establishing a new municipal Speed Limit Policy.
"(R)esidents of Ward 2 have expressed significant concerns regarding vehicular speed and traffic safety; there are high volumes of vehicular, pedestrian and cyclist activities, particularly around community facilities, schools, churches and residential areas."
