New Tecumseth updated Official Plan, growth scenarios ready for council approval
Posted May 7, 2025
Several years in the making, the most comphrensive update to New Tecumseth's Official Plan and growth strategy through to 2051, will be presented to council Monday night for committee approval.
The growth study lays out the path to accommodate more than 17,600 new residents, and employment lands through settlement area expansions in Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham.
Once adopted by council and approved by the County, the expansion areas will be subject to a Town-initiated Master Servicing Plan which supercedes planning approvals until complete. Within that will be Secondary Planning for specific areas identified on the Official Plan schedules, followed by, zoning changes, Plans of Subdivision then building permits.
"Through the growth of each settlement area, new infrastructure will be planned to improve transport connections such as new arterial roads between County Road 10 and King St in Alliston, 8th and 9th Line in Beeton and 4th and 5th Line in Tottenham," according to the report to council. "New servicing such as sewer and water pipelines and pump stations can be routed through the expansion areas therefore resulting in less disruption to the existing parts of the communities during construction."
