Indoor pool, new library, and domed sports field progress on the docket
Posted October 30, 2025
New Tecumseth council will be asked to advance a proposed small domed sports field to Phase 2 Feasibility Study with the proposed location at Geoff Gaston Sports Park.
Additionally, the combined feasibility studies for an indoor pool, and new library, expected to be presented with recommendations in July 2026.
In separate reports to council on Monday night's agenda:
-
The Parks, Trails and Open Spaces Master Plan identifies the need for additional field space to meet growing demand over the next 15 years. Community feedback strongly supports the addition of artificial turf fields to extend play time and improve reliability.
-
Geoff Gaston Sports Park has been highlighted as a priority site for upgrades to achieve “tournament-worthy” status.
-
Within a 50 km radius of New Tecumseth, there are 12 sports domes, 10 of which are located south in the GTA, underscoring a regional gap in facilities north of the GTA.
-
Servicing (water, sanitary, hydro, gas, etc.) will need to be extended to the selected site, with costs borne by the Town.
-
Parking capacity must also be addressed, with associated costs falling to the municipality.
The Recreation and Culture Master Plan, Library Master Plan, and Indoor Pool Feasibility Study have been consolidated into a single coordinated initiative, delivered as the Recreation, Culture & Library Action Plan (RCLAP) and Indoor Pool Feasibility Study (IPFS) under the leadership of a Prime Consultant.
"The final report will include, but is not limited to, an assessment of need, location and concept analysis, site analysis, capital costs, an operational business plan, a funding strategy, and a design component up to a Class D estimate. The overall objective is to propose a clear site and concept with a recommended project plan and timeline for design and construction. Once the information is available, Council can deliberate on next steps."
