County council salaries set to climb
Posted October 16, 2024
One week after voting to retain a 32-member Simcoe County council composition with the addition of a non-elected, appointed full-time Warden, its governance committee sets the table for significant increases to their salaries and per diem rates.
The committee, which met yesterday morning, and had its previous recommendation to reduce the size of council to 16, plus a Warden, rejected, will present councillors with four options based on its "market comparators."

"Overall, while Council remuneration can be contentious with a possible negative perception of Council considering increases for themselves," according to the committee report, "it is important to consider the principle that remuneration be commensurate to the execution of duties and competitive to attract strong leaders for the communities served by the County of Simcoe."
