Collingwood turns the water tap down because of ice build up, reduces flow to New Tecumseth

Posted January 22, 2025

Ice build-up on the intake valve of Collingwood’s water treatment plant is causing “operational issues” this morning limiting production and in turn flows to its municipal customers including New Tecumseth.

“Operators continue to work to resolve the issue; however, at this time, treated water production is limited. The Town has paused providing water to our customer municipalities,” according to a statement posted on Collingwood’s website. “We ask that residents limit unnecessary water use for today and into the evening.  This will help preserve our stored water for fire emergencies.  We appreciate any action you can do such as saving your wash loads for another day and limiting toilet flushes and showering. The Town will provide an update at 3:00 p.m. today.”

New Tecumseth gets the bulk of its water from Collingwood and will receive a reduced flow but doesn’t expect to feel any significant impacts in the short term.

More details when available.
