Candle deemed source of Tottenham house fire

A Casserley Crescent home in Tottenham sustained smoke and water damage last night following a fire believed to have been sparked by a candle.

 

New Tecumseth emergency crews were called to the scene in the south end subdivision shortly before 7:30 pm, where firefighters quickly brought it under control. Five people at home at the time, escaped without injuries.

 

OPP reported the cause of the fire was determined to be a candle that ignited a drape covering a window in the basement.

 

The family has had to relocate temporarily because of severe smoke damage and flooding into the basement.
