Alliston dog park to be locked overnight​

Hillcrest dog park in Alliston will be locked to enforce the posted hours of operation 8 am to 8 pm.

Continued use after hours has led to neighbourhood complaints and bylaw enforcement is not available overnight, "when enforcement of the posted operating hours is most needed," according to the report to council.

The report notes "complaints from area residents regarding noise, disturbances, and confrontations involving park users have continued since the opening of the Hillcrest Dog Park and have not slowed or ceased. Late evening and overnight activity at the park negatively impacts the peace, quiet, and enjoyment of neighbouring residents within the surrounding community."

"The (OPP) have been called numerous times regarding issues at the Hillcrest Dog Park and should not be expected to enforce the operating hours of a municipally owned dog park. Reinstating the locking of the gates between the hours of 8 pm. and 8 am would help ensure compliance with the established park hours and provide residents with relief during the most sensitive hours of the day."
