
Final month to register for municipal elections

The close of filing to run for municipal or school board office in Ontario ends at 2 pm on Aug., 21.
The list of certification of nominations is on Aug., 24.
Eligible Candidates must:

be a resident of the municipality or an owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such owner or tenant

be a Canadian citizen, and at least 18 years old

not be legally prohibited from voting

not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office or the office of a school board trustee.
Each candidate must register with a minimum of 25 signatures, though it is recommended to have more in case of challenges. Candidates for council are charged a $100, while running for mayor costs $200 at registration.
