Final month to register for municipal elections

The close of filing to run for municipal or school board office in Ontario ends at 2 pm on Aug., 21.​

 

The list of certification of nominations is on Aug., 24.

​

Eligible Candidates must:

• be a resident of the municipality or an owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such owner or tenant

• be a Canadian citizen, and at least 18 years old

• not be legally prohibited from voting

• not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office or the office of a school board trustee.

Each candidate must register with a minimum of 25 signatures, though it is recommended to have more in case of challenges. Candidates for council are charged a $100, while running for mayor costs $200 at registration.

• Advance Voting Period – Oct., 13, to Oct., 25.

• Election Day – Oct., 26.

• New Term of Council Begins – Nov., 15.

• Inauguration – Nov., 16, at 6:00 p.m.​​
