Bylaw amendments create annual licence for food trucks
Posted April 13, 2026
New Tecumseth council has approved amendments to the refreshment vehicle bylaw establishing a single annual licence allowing vendors to operate at multiple locations and events across the municipality. Changes would take place immediately for the 2026 season.
Under the current framework, operators may be required to obtain separate approvals tied to individual events or locations.
The town’s existing fee structure includes annual licensing costs in the range of several hundred dollars for refreshment vehicles, with additional administrative or event-related fees applied in some cases. The amended bylaw replaces this with a consolidated fee model intended to eliminate duplicate charges within the same licensing period.
The bylaw also defines distinct categories of refreshment vehicles, including those operating on private property, at municipal events and in temporary or seasonal settings. The amendments standardize how each category is licensed and regulated.
Documentation requirements are reduced under the new rules. Vendors who have valid public health approvals will not be required to resubmit the same materials for multiple events within the same year.
Operational restrictions remain unchanged. Existing provisions governing permitted locations and proximity to established restaurants continue under the bylaw, with additional clarification on their application.
Health and safety requirements are not affected. All operators must continue to meet provincial standards and public health inspection requirements.
