Province announces new public elementary school in Tottenham

Posted December 19, 2025

The provincial government will provide $20.2 million to the Simcoe County District School Board for construction of a new school at 80 McGahey Street in Tottenham. The project will create 426 elementary spaces.

“We are grateful for this investment by the Ministry of Education for a new elementary school in Tottenham,” said Dawn Stephens, Director of Education. “This is exciting news for students and families in New Tecumseth and will certainly ensure that Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students continue to have the opportunity to learn and grow in their community. SCDSB staff put forward a strong business case which included a shovel-ready site, putting us in a position to begin construction on this project in 2026.”

The new announcement adds to the number of school projects underway in Tottenham.

They include a $16.3 million new Catholic school on Martin Trail, for 516 students, and day care spaces, expected to open September 2026;  and the $8.5 million, 12-classroom and new gym addition at St. Thomas Aquinas high school, anticipated to open in fall 2026, accommodating an additional 276 students.
