Council advances hospital foundation funds for matching program

Posted April 30, 2026

New Tecumseth council has released $750,000 from the Town’s Hospital Contribution Reserve to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation so it can take advantage of a matching funds program.

The decision, made Monday night, will turn the donation into $1.5 million through the Morningview Foundation's Every Dollar Counts campaign, which matches up to $4 million over three years. It could net the SMHF $8 million at full-pledge.

In January, the Ontario government and its agency Infrastructure Ontario (IO), awarded a $174 million contract to Pomerleau Inc., for construction of the expansion.

The phase one work will include new and larger acute care areas, the construction of a new, three-storey building that will more than double the size of the hospital, to approximately 147,100 square feet, and increasing inpatient bed capacity by 20 per cent. The complete redevelopment is expected to be done by late 2028.

“Council recognized this was an opportunity to significantly amplify the Town’s investment in local healthcare,” said Mayor Richard Norcross. “With construction underway, releasing the entire pledge now allows our contribution to go further, faster — doubling its value and helping ensure the new Stevenson Memorial Hospital is equipped to serve New Tecumseth residents and surrounding communities for decades to come.”
